Student Designed Experiment
The purpose of the student designed lab is to introduce and promote the process of science research. Students are given the opportunity to design their own labs and create individualized data collection activities based on the topic assigned. Although experiment guidelines are made available, the student's activities are primarily restricted only by lab safety issues and available lab equipment.

Standard Lab
The purpose of the standard lab is to build basic laboratory skills, emphasize the process of science, reinforce the concepts of physics, and promote enthusiasm for science through meaningful lab activities. Formal lab report write-up techniques are taught and emphasized.

Exploration and Inquiry
The purpose of an exploration and inquiry lab is to discover the concepts of physics through student designed exploration. Students are given the opportunity to explore concepts and observable phenomena beyond the more structured approach utilized in the standard lab. These labs typically do not require mathematical calculations. Learning by inquiry is emphasized including techniques for journaling observations.
